| it's a boy :) 6 months and counting now.. he kicks and punches a lot. his father loves it and eggs him on by saying "Go on my son" *sigh* | | |
| i think i had an overly romanticised idea of pregnancy..not scratch that.. i don't think..i TOTALLY had an overly romanticised idea of pregnancy.
i never imagined it to be so difficult. i had thought i'd be all rosy and glowing...with a nice little baby bump..i was so so wrong...
The bad stuff: 1. morning sickness - it's not just the mornings..it's all the time. i've never experienced anything like this before. you don't even get a break whilst you sleep. i've been waking up in the middle of the night with an overwhelming need to vomit. not great. one of my good friends here told me that that happened to her a lot and she was reduced to sleeping with plastic bags and bins next to her. yuck yuck yuck
most people tell me to hang in there and that this will pass once i hit my second trimester. well..2 more weeks to go and i'll hit that mark..so i'm really praying that this awful feeling will end. i really need to start getting proper food down me - my baby currently loves carbs carbs and more carbs. so pasta, rice, french fries are all tolerable. but i need protein - but the sight of any meat is just terrible!
2. a dampened immune system - it's pretty well known that during pregnancy, your immune system is dampened. which means that i've been having a respiratory infection that doesn't seem to let up. and there are a lot of medicines i can't take which doesn't help the matter. coughing..hacking..sneezing..i keep apologising to baby for the disturbance i'm causing...
3. fatigue - maybe it's a combination of the two factors mentioned above..but i'm constantly tired. i'm not able to focus on work as much as used to and it takes quite a lot of effort to get through the day.
4. body temperature going mad - the humid, tropical heat of Singapore is really getting to me..and i'm told it's going to get worse once i start getting bigger.
5. bloatedness and a messed up digestive system - burping a lot.. heartburn..yep..it's all kicking in.
6. Mood swings - ranging from fury to all out weeping..it's ridiculous.
However..it's all worth it when:
We see baby on the scans. At the last scan, we could see the beginnings of arms and legs. It's now so apparent where our baby's head is, heart is.. and he/she doesn't look like a bean anymore :) The funniest thing was I reached out to touch the monitor and kind of teased baby saying "you..causing mum all this nausea". the minute i said that (and this was witnessed by lester and our obstetrician)..baby started waving his/her arms in protest and wouldn't stop until i apologised. :O lester thinks if we have a girl, she's going to be a hard-ass stubborn person like her mummy who will protest violently if unfairly accused of something
.. (you see, technically, it's not baby's fault that the nausea kicks in..it's the hormones released...ahh..whatever, the science bit is boring..)
I can't wait for the next scan. It gets us right at the core of our hearts everytime we see our baby on the scan..and i can't help but marvel how true it is that God is wondrously forming a child in me :)
as for the baby bump..it's growing properly now. i just got my first pair of maternity trousers. oh they are SO comfortable.. :p

| The name saga continues..Ed - Lester had already thought of chewbacca
My mum and sister are now pissing themselves laughing over their suggestions for baby names. You have to be Singaporean to understand this and find this funny:
1. Chanmali - as in Chamali Chan (it's a Malay song in singapore which every kid learns) 2. IceKar - as in Icekar-Chan (singaporean dessert) 3. Bela - as in Bela-Chan (malay for shrimp paste)
I'm going to stop asking people for suggestions. | | |
| I asked for sensible names...So, these are the "sensible" suggestions people have given us: 1. Brazilian footballer names: Kaka. Yes Ed, Kaka Chan sounds so good. My child will need psychological counselling for the rest of his/her life. 2. Hercules - Ed: you and lester have a very similar silly sense of humour :p 3. From other friends: Magnum or Hans Solo Seriously people, i'm writing all this down in a diary for baby chan. he/she will find out how silly all her uncles (yes, only men have given silly names) are :p | | |
